During and after the 2016 presidential election, T.I. became more vocal politically, speaking out about the president and social injustices. Now, the Atlanta rapper is congratulating Atlanta mayoral candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms following her win but also calling out the backlash surrounding her victory.

The rapper offered a short congrats to the mayor-elect saying, “Congratulations, Keisha,” and then went on to address an incident with CBS 46’s Sharon Reed, who called out a viewer who sent her an email during the newtork’s coverage of the race, calling Reed the N-word.

“When we dealing with people like Kathy Rae, the lady Sharon Reed had to address tonight,” said T.I. “I wanna explain something to Kathy Rae and all the other people who think like her… When you are an oppressed people, you take your victories personally. And when you are an oppressed people, you take all the opposing people to your victory personally. And for you to pretend that this doesn’t exist, it makes you just as bad as the oppressors.”

While Bottoms is now celebrating her victory, her opponent Mary Norwood has asked for a recount, ABC News reports. “It’s not over yet,” Norwood told her supporters, noting that she trailed Bottoms by 759 votes. “We will be asking for a recount.” She added, “We will be here until every vote is counted and we know what happens.”

If Norwood is chosen as mayor, she will be Atlanta’s first white mayor since 1974. The city has also not had a female mayor since 2010.
